Urban Hope Development’s First Work Life Class

Covid-19 is what it is, but we always say that God is not surprised by any pandemic or plague that may come into our lives. This pandemic has created all kinds of issues and one of the issues that it has created is a lack of qualified workers needed for the workforce. This article assesses the dilemma that many companies are facing: https://www.morningbrew.com/daily/stories/2021/04/06/us-companies-trouble-finding-qualified-workers?

We didn’t allow stimulus checks and extra unemployment checks to deter us from going forward in implementing God’s blueprint for work. This is a much needed message in light of the times that we are living in here in the West. The cultural paradigm shifts are happening faster than anyone could have expected and we as a ministry are doing our best in addressing these shifts with the unchanging message of the Gospel. The Gospel is the only hope for our urban communities and we need that message to be unleashed in both word and practical deeds.

Urban Hope Development is the deeds oriented arm of Urban Hope and its vision is “Bringing hope to communities through education and economic development”. The intent is to come alongside the church in Fairfield and do practical discipleship in the development of soft skills that are transferable to everyday life, school and in the workplace. We are teaching the biblical principles of work that undo the worldview that people should hate work and look to the government for sustenance and provision. This mentality is plaguing our country and particularly our urban poor communities.  Government policies are a learned way of survival in these urban communities and we must be very strategic in our discipleship work in order to lead people out of this “Egyptian” worldview and to the promised land.

Therefore, we are developing new ways to combat all of this by calling on and partnering with our church partners and the Christian business community to sponsor summer internships for our high school and Miles College students.  The church is where we destroy the strongholds of human arguments and lofty opinions raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

In this format we address the fractured family structure with the Word of God. We address the government programs that hinder God-given work ethic. We address the programs that hinder marriage and family as it is given to us in the Holy Scriptures. The voices of this age tell us that these biblical principles are not necessary, but this is the role of the church and UHCC; to address and tear down all of these new social worldviews with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through discipleship. We are in a spiritual war and we are fighting the war with the Word of God.

Pharaoh is determined to either keep the people in Egypt or to lead them back to where he can keep them from utilizing their true God-given gifts and abilities to the glory and worship of God. We are calling the people to repent and to pursue the kingdom of God and his righteousness that are only found in Christ Jesus.

We are getting close to completing our new worship space and hope to be utilizing it for worship, discipleship and other church and community functions by July of 2021. We are $155,000 away from reaching our fundraising goal and establishing God’s anchor here among the urban poor in Fairfield and would ask that you consider a donation to help us to reach this goal. Giving instructions are listed to the left.
