Alton Hardy serves as the Lead Pastor and Founder of Urban Hope Community Church and an ordained teaching elder of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He is also the Cofounder of Urban Hope Development in Fairfield, AL. Alton is a native of Selma, AL and resided in Louisville, KY and Grand Rapids, MI for many years before returning to Alabama. Alton’s educational background includes a degree from Alpena Community College, Reformed Bible College, Calvin Seminary and a Certificate of Completion from Antioch Leadership Training in Reformed Preaching. Alton is happily married to Sandra and they have five children. In his free time, he enjoys reading and watching sports. Alton is passionate about addressing the conditions facing urban communities.
Chad Granger serves as the Assistant Pastor of Urban Hope Community Church and an ordained teaching elder of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He is a native of Slapout, AL. As Chad serves in his role at Urban Hope Community Church, he has been a witness that the gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to breakthrough all racial and socioeconomic barriers. Chad’s educational background includes a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University and a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Chad is happily married to Allison and they have two sons, Abram and Jude. In his free time (or not chasing the boys around), he enjoys reading and hunting. Chad is passionate about seeing the Lord raise up more African American elders and church planters in the PCA.
Sister Sandra Hardy
Executive Director, Urban Hope Development
Sandra Hardy serves as the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Urban Hope Development. She is responsible for overseeing UHope Success Academy, for middle school students, and Urban Hope Academy for 17-21 year olds. Sandra is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan and resided there for many years before moving to Alabama. Sandra’s educational background includes a Masters in Public Administration from Grand Valley State University, Bachelors of Science degree from Davenport University, and also holds a Certificate of Completion from the Devos Urban Leadership Initiative Training Program. Sandra is happily married to Alton Hardy and they have five children. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and finding ways to stay active. Sandra is passionate about being a “helper of mankind” as her names means and seeing the urban poor beat the odds.
Brother Dion Watts
Director of Outreach and Controller
Dion Watts serves as the Director of Outreach and Controller at Urban Hope Community Church. He is primarily responsible for overseeing the outreach ministry and all accounting and financial related functions. As a native of Fairfield, AL Dion is passionate about discipleship for young men in his community and feels called to eventually be a pastor within the PCA. Dion’s educational background includes a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Birmingham-Southern College and is currently pursuing a degree from Birmingham Theological Seminary, while also being trained to be an elder within the church. In his free time, Dion enjoys reading, fantasy football, poker, and exercising. Dion’s life verse is Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you” (CSB).
Sister Carine Lewis
Women's Ministry Director
Carine Lewis serves as Urban Hope Community Church's Women's Ministry Director. She is primarily responsible for serving the women of our church, community and as a liaison between the local church, Miles College students, Fairfield High school students and other young people. Carine is of Haitian decent and a native of Queens, NY. Carine’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Women's Studies from University of West Georgia and she is currently enrolled at Birmingham Theological Seminary. Carine is happily married to Carl Lewis and they are new residents of Fairfield, AL. In her free time, she enjoys writing, cooking and laughing. Carine is passionate about addressing the issues African American women face and discipling women.
Brother Michael Bowen
Director of Operations
Michael Bowen serves as the Director of Operations at Urban Hope Community Church. He is primarily responsible for overseeing and organizing the daily ministry operations of the church and its staff. He is also responsible for volunteer involvement and development of community partnerships. Michael is a native of Huntsville, AL and his educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Auburn University. Michael is happily married to Sims Bowen who teaches 4th grade at Cornerstone Elementary School in Woodlawn and they have a son named Samuel. In his free time, he enjoys spending time building relationships, eating good food and watching and playing any sport with a ball. Michael is passionate about seeing the Kingdom of God displayed throughout the city of Birmingham through real and authentic relationships spurred on by the reading, preaching and teaching of God’s word within the context of the local church.
Sister Carla Burnham
Carla Burnham serves as the Director of Communications of Urban Hope Community Church. She manages the church's social media platforms, website, and supports various communications on behalf of the church. Carla is a native of Marbury, AL and now resides in Fairfield, AL. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Business Management from Auburn University at Montgomery. Carla and her husband, Joshua, are happily married newly weds. Carla enjoys traveling, exercising, having fun, and spending time with friends and family.
Sister Emily Sadler
Emily Sadler serves as Urban Hope Community Church's part-time Bookkeeper. She oversees the day-to-day data entry and accounting processes of the church and is responsible for our donor communications.
